And now we’ll show you a gearbox which also endures this and shoots even faster, without bursting into flames The G&G high cycle edition of the firehawk So this is, as already said the high cycle edition which means it’s a 0.
5 Joule gun with full auto and before you leave now because you think: “Ugh! 0.5 J, who would want that?” No, this isn’t a normal 0.5J gun and the firehawk is in not at all inferior to SAEGs (>0.5 J) the opposite is the case, but more later on Also this isn’t just any gun it’s the original one of the owner of the “Softairstore” he himself has played with it and it has a few thousand shots through it already We do this review out of our own interest so we don’t get paid to glorify this gun and how the weapon is judged in this review is entirely up to us At the first look we notice the beak-like flash hider that also acts as an amplifier The weapon doesn’t only owe it part of it’s name but also it’s characteristic sound Front and rear flip-up sights are already included also RIS rails on the top the bottom and the sides for a foregrip or any other accesories On the rear we can find a Magpull similar stock which doesn’t only hold the battery in this case a Li-Po one but also has the G&G typical special compartment where you can store important things that every airsofter needs on the field in this case even XXL so you see there is quite a lot of space For the mag it comes with a beautiful G&G High Cap which is really well made You could say “High Caps are crap” now but this weapon really needs a High Cap but we’ll talk more about that later I notice right away that the mag is a little bit wobbly you might see that in the video Also it’s a bit of a pitty that the bolt catch doesn’t really catches it doesn’t lock back the cover jumps forwards instantly you can adjust the hop up here but like I said you have to hold it back all the time A two sided one point sling can be found on the rear which is also apart from the screws the only part made from steel the rest of the gun is made from fibre-reinforced plastics with the exception of the flash hider and some other parts you have to say though either you like it or you don’t but this is definitely a very high grade material not really comparable with the cheap China plastic weapons It feels very good and high grade and in the beginning I thought that all this is metal so it’s no comparison to the cheap plastic weapons at all otherwise the firehawk is held pretty short which makes it perfect for CQB and also the ROF is awesome you haven’t misheard these are an entire 1200 rounds per minute with an 11.
1V Li-Po even 3000 rounds per minute which means we get the promised ROF of 33.33 periodic rounds per second let’s just chrono the firehawk right here to chrono and also for the shooting test we used like always 0.
25g G&G Bio BBs Also we used a 7.4V Li-Po battery you can even increase the ROF by about 800 rounds per minute if you use a 11.1V Li-Po battery but if that justifies the increased wear everyone has to decide for himself You often hear that 0.
5J guns are kiddie weapons that can’t achieve anything but that is just a prejudice because especially in CQB you often fight at distances of 5 to 10m and probably a max of 30m on most fields and you hardly find longer distances But what does even happen if you fire accidentally with a SAEG e.
g. by reflex, compared to a firehawk Let’s look at that with balistics gel shot from 1.5 and 5m as comparison the 0.5J firehawk at semi you can see that the BBs don’t even penetrate the balistics gel The 1.
7J SAEG already penetrates a few cm into the gel and those are the ugly BBs sticking under the skin We now show you the firehawk at 1.5m on full auto as we can see some few BBs can penetrate this is due to us shooting at the exact same spot all the time because the firehawk is clamped to the table so this will never happen on the field since either the gun or the opponent will move except if you have an aimbot or an Anvil now the 1.
7J at 5m as you can see the BBs still penetrate so 5m safety distance is by far not enough to prevent injuries The 0.5J on the other hand doesn’t even come close to penetrating the gel block So you can see that even if someone slips with the 0.
5J in his hand or triggers by mischance it’s pretty much safe except for maybe a few bruises on naked skin Whereas with 1.7J there can already occur badly bleeding wounds up to sticking BBs, and noone realy wants that We play airsoft, a team game and especially in CQB or other fields in a densely developed area you should in no way play with your primary weapon with not seldom up to 2J In the face of the other players you should keep it fair and not oppose them with your heavily cranked up gun But how about range and accuracy compared between these two rifles We’ll now clamp down the weapon at 70 airsoft meters, so 30m in real live and have a look at it As you can see we have a grouping of 25cm with the firehawk with which it is no problem to hit even a slim person like me for comparison we’ll now clamp down the m16 with 1.
7J because we don’t want to show the operator’s accuracy but the weapon’s We’re doing all this indoors where there is no wind which means the BBs aren’t affected by any wind Here we can see the grouping of the Ares m16 it’s tuned endlessly, far above 1000€ not comparable at all with a weapon for less than 200€ but only a grouping of about 14cm which is compared to 25cm not that much and like you can see with both weapons human sized hits are possible at this distance Here we can see the full auto grouping now with more than half a mag fired it’s a grouping of about 20cm as you can see here but some stray BBs up to 65cm are also possible but I’d say the 33 r/s ROF compensates pretty well for that which means no matter if you have that strays you’re still going to hit a lot with it Just for comparison we still have this from older reviews same BBs, same location and we can see shot from 50m here with an ICS MX5 with a grouping of 36cm and the G&G G36 with a grouping of 38cm So we already saw the incredible ROF of the firehawk but how does it even reach that and can the internals even bear up against it? Like already said we have the gun of the shop operator here which means it has already shot a few thousand rounds with this ROF and now we’ll have a look at how the gears look how airtight is the system but first lets have a look at the shimming and I was a little bit suprised there because G&G has built in new ceramic bearings which makes it run a bit smoother and they are also more heat resistant which means there is no warping or anything similar ball bearings on the bottom normal bearings on the top all 9mm and later we’ll have to open it and have a look if they run freely because I have a very precise tool here but I can’t measure any play at all it may be shimmed too much which I don’t think and have a look if it’s because of the new gears that it is shimmed that good I don’t know if you can see it on camera but I’ll counterpress now and look again but it’s it’s the same for every bearing it’s not moving at all, not one little cm We’ll open it up now and take the spring out and have a look if the gears can turn freely So we have opened the gearbox now and taken everyting unnecessary out to have a look if the gears turn freely and lets hold it in a way you can see it I don’t need force to turn them they turn perfectly free it could maybe run for a bit longer it pretty much instantly stops but for there being absolutely no play not a bit the gears are still running incredibly freely I’m suprised with that I guess I should probably have a look at shimming my m16 a bit better because the gears in it have incredible much play so I have to admit whatever G&G did there the shimming is incredible good Now lets switch from the shimming to the tightness of the system and have a look at it we have a cylinder with a hole here which fits the short barrel well lets see how tight the whole thing is here it runs freely and now it should compress but there is nothing there is absolutely nothing the whole system is terrifyingly untight at first that might look blatant of course, because I can do what I want here so you can’t really say it’s tight But you have to remember we have 0.
38J this here is probably the reason why we have such a huge loss but if you look at the pistonhead you can see why Because first of all, it’s not ventilated that doesn’t really help the ROF because we have negative pressure in the barrel, this needs more force when the piston is on it’s way back and even though there is an O ring it doesn’t seem to be tight the nozzle also has no O ring So here you have the possibility to exchange the pistonhead for a ventilated one and a nozzle with O ring which is quite inexpensive and you have quite a bit of potential to increase the tightness and the performance BUT! Remember! We’ve got a 0.
5J gun and when you tune it with said parts and you get over 0.5J you have a full auto greater than 0.5J weapon which is illegal (in Germany) so be cautious if you want to do that and put a decent pistonhead and a better nozzle in Now let’s look at the gears Here we have the double sector gear which makes the ROF possible in the first place because at one turn of the gear the piston gets activated two times For now let’s stay with the double sector gear even though it already has shot that often like said this is the gun of the “Softairstore” owner Bernd it already has a few thousand rounds through it it looks really amazing there is still a nice amount of grease on it the whole system is greased pretty good I’ll take it out very carefully for you not to ruin the shimming, I’ll never get it that good Now if we look very closely first of all: nicely greased and also no wear at all we have a little bit of wear here on the steel teeth piston of course it’s to expect that it has all stell teeth just a tiny little bit of wear on the first tooth but else it looks like new But as good as the gear is, really nice quality there is made by modify a quantum sector gear where these pins that trigger the tappet plate are a little bit longer you can compare it to a sector gear clip probably not all of you know what I mean but if we have a look at the tappet plate which is a bit shorter for the double sector gear What the extended pins would do is they give the tappet plate a bit more time in the pushed back position and that eliminates feeding problems and stuff like that so there is no chance for feeding problems to occur like said that is not a necessity you can have it for double sector gears but otherwise that’s a top gear About the switch unit: it still has an old unit so it has no mosfet Up to now it has been run with a 7.
4V Li-ion battery concerning that the switch unit looks quite good but I personally would install a mosfet to prevent wear on it and if you want to use an 11.1V Li-Po to make sure the switch unit doesn’t break really easy explanation of what a mosfet is it just makes that the current going to the motor doesn’t go through the switch unit to take strain off of it so the contacts don’t burn All in all, with the shimming it’s a really nice system I mean there was no play at all and the gears could still run freely especially at this high spinning speeds it’s good that it’s shimmed that perfectly by G&G not that nice on the other hand is the tightnes of the system and that they used a non ventilated pistonhead they could definitely have fixed that but you still can fix that yourself the nozzle also has no O ring that also wastes a bit of tightness and energy of the system Like mentioned we have 0.
38J instead of 0.5J so you can definitely make a bit more out of it you can experiment with it a little bit if you want also maybe we’re just a little bit unlucky with our system here so that it’s not tight we don’t know you probably would have to look at other systems we didn’t just want to do a review where we just take a gun that hasn’t been played with this way we may have seen that there is the possibility to improve it and lets be honest and have a look at a 100€ gearbox to be precise this well known dual power it has plastic gears the engine is compared to the G&G one very nice I don’t think you have to say any more about that comparison at least you can see what’s going on on the inside, that’s the benefit you get but that’s pretty much it So even if it sounds like something dramatic that the whole system is so leaky it’s really not dramatic compared to what of a gearbox you get for that price aside from the fact that with little money and a bit of manual labour the whole thing can be fixed and this 0.
12J that you’re missing aren’t that big of a deal Continuing to the hop up now it doesn’t have a plastic hop up unit but a metal one on the inside is a special cold resistant bucking by G&G the green ones furthermore it has, like most airsofts mini Tamiya plugs I don’t really like them because they once caused a short in my ARES E-System I’d rather solder T-Plugs on it so if you’re confident with soldering and remember if it’s your fault that the weapon doesn’t work because of your soldering you won’t have any guarantee then I’d definitely recommend to install T-Plugs because they are for high current keep together better and also I’d use tin-lead solder A little tip from me personally especially because it is a system with a high rotation speed I would suggest if you are willing to invest quite some time to do a “wet break in” with the motor I don’t want to go too much into detail but if you’re interested there is a link in the description and like said before if there is a problem with the weapon you won’t have any guarantee not automatically because you’re doing it but only if the problem is related to that A wet break in is basicaly just that the graphite brushes of the motor get worn in and this leads to a longer life of your motor it has more power and especially at a system where the motor turns a lot this is quite important and will help the motor run longer and not lose power Even when I complained about the mini Tamiya plugs G&G has used a decent fuse here and not one of these as they are found on most airsofts and the cause why it sometimes isn’t working because they tend to melt way too fast and about the wires they have also used nice wires and not ,to exaggerate a bit, something like this how you can find them somethimes on cheap guns A thing that’s a bit annoying is that it has only a small space for the battery so if you would have to mount a battery box here you would have to rewire the whole gun because here on the back you can’t put a battery box so you’re limited to putting the battery in there so the best is to put a Li-Po in We’ve already compared it and here we want to show you with an oscilloscope how the voltage of batteries drops just to show that Li-Po’s have way less of a voltage drop here you can see at first the voltage drop with an 11.
1 Li-Po and in comparison the voltage drop with a 7.4 Li-Po and last we attempted to shoot with a 12V NiMh but the weapon didn’t want to fire at all so that’s quite interesting and means that you’re limited to Li-Po’s but that’s no problem because the others won’t fit anyway So if you’re thinking about getting into Airsoft this weapon is a very good choice for starters you can’t really go wrong with it it doesn’t have any fragile electronics you don’t have to modify it yourself it is already a good gun and just roughly the price of it is 229€ at the “Softairstore” where you also get the best support that I personally know because they’re directly in contact with G&G you can buy a “swiss eye raptor” with it these are very good protection glasses and you should in no way skimp on protection It costs about 29€ Then a mesh mask which costs about 15€ and it’s something you should definitely have if you’re playing against SAEGs if you just play against 0.
5J guns you can decide for yourself if you want to take that risk for your teeth but I’ll put it this way: 15€ is far cheaper than a dental insurance You will still have to buy a battery because no high grade gun comes with a battery which I personally haven’t known We have a 7.
4V Li-Po battery with a capacity of 1450mA/h here It has a performance of 25c which means it can output a burst of 72.5A which is quite a lot for a battery that small and it costs about 24€ you’ll also have to get a Li-Po charger and you should probably get one with a balanced charging mode that charges every cell seperately you normaly need that with a Li-Po One like that costs at least 23€ I’d really recommend you to get decent equipment from a RC store Especially with batteries and chargers you can find a lot as RC equipment different batteries of course you’ll have to watch out that it fits in your stock A spare mag is 34€ for a spare High Cap from G&G you can get all this from the “Softairstore” exactly like it is here since we got lent all this from them as well So the list is getting a little bit long as we haven’t included clothes gloves or other equipment you might want to add later and sturdy shoes that are higher than your ankles of course they are also important because most injuries from Airsoft have to do with the shoes that someone trips over something because the fields are all of a woodlandish type where branches or stones can be in the way so you should really watch out for that We’ve got quite a big list now we’re at about 350€ for a start into airsoft with this gun and the most essential accessories leaving out clothes and sturdy boots You have to decide for yourself if it’s worth it for you but I recommend to at least plan with 350€ if you plan with less than that you probably won’t have fun at first and abandon it right away in that case you can just save the money because if you start with a 50€ crap AEG you won’t hit much and have no fun either so there is no sense in doing it and you’re just wasting money 350€ for an airsoft start without clothes or shoes is actually a pretty good offer if you aren’t experienced with which batteries to take do they even fit into the stock and so on the “Airsoftstore” has a confirgurator where directly below the gun you can choose to add a battery or charger and whatever you can choose there will definitely fit so you can’t make a mistake You can find a link there in the description This is the G&G firehawk –Corpus: counts himself as part of the elite– which I was just allowed to test –Corpus: counts himself as part of the elite– right now I’ve played it with –Corpus: counts himself as part of the elite– a standard Magpull 1 point sling –Corpus: counts himself as part of the elite– and my hurricane EOTech so I haven’t tested the sights I just tested the High Cap a moment ago but for playing I used the normal G&G Mid Caps these are just like the weapon made from strong ABS and not metal So far it makes a good impression the only Problem I had not sure if it’s because of the ABS or the tolerance but the rail seems to be a bit wider was that the first mounting of my EO was quite an act otherwise what’s pretty nice is the short barrel that doesn’t affect the range of a 0.
5J at all I’d guess that I can hit someone at about 38m +-2m I’ve tested it with both mags once with the “Green devil” 0.25g BBs and once with the G&G 0.20g BBs and there were no feeding issues neither with the High Caps nor the Mid Caps and it had no problems with the ROF at all At the moment there is a 7.
4V battery inside with which it should have slightly more than 20 r/s with a 11.1V it achieves more than 33 Concerning the ease of handling I would not want to miss the stock because with it you get the gun instantly at the right level when taking aim When you have a variable distance between the grip and your shoulder the aiming takes way longer and the stock in this length isn’t obstructive at all you can have it on your side without any restrictions On the front it doesn’t come with a frontgrip or sling mount so I could only use it with a 1 point sling but because of the RIS rails you can put on suitable ones from Magpull or other companies what I noticed on the outside was that the charging handle is quite loose For 229€ it should be available at the German shops Otherwise the hop up was quite easy to adjust for both BB types I used for German fields I can definitely suggest it, I know only very few German fields where you would need more than 0.
5J The effective range is made in a way so you definitely don’t have to do anything to it even though some people will probably say you should do it I had neither electronic nor mechanic failures the BBs always flew where I wanted them to This is a solid weapon I can suggest especially for beginners but also for advanced players who just want a light gun with low energy with which you can effectively play from 0 to 35m plus a bit Now finally let’s get to the pros and cons Here the Pros: It has an awesome ROF I hardly know a weapon that has achieved a higher ROF without tuning and of course it’s easy to handle in CQB, it’s very compact What I think is a pitty is that the RIS is made from plastic even though it seems really high grade I generally don’t like these plastic RIS’ I also had one on the FN2000 on the one which came with the “hunter optic” you can use it of course but I personally would have wished for metal RIS We should also highlight that the gears are really high quality and for what it costs for this 229€ it has incredible good gears a perfect shimming not comparable with anything else Now about the cons: there is no Mosfet installed you should in any case upgrade that if you don’t want the switch unit to burn out over time Like we said before the bolt catch doesn’t lock back but you have to remind yourself that the gun costs only 229€ so that’s absolutely a price for beginners It’s a shame that the system is so leaky so you should mend the tightness if you know what you’re doing otherwise just leave it because as it is even with the untight system like you saw the tests were good the range, the precision are particularly for this short barrel really good With this review we just wanted to have a look if you like it and offer a very in depth review so just leave a comment if you liked it what you would wish for future reviews and if you even wish more reviews on this channel where there are mostly gameplay videos And if you like more reviews like this one just have a look at runlax airsoft because we shot this video with them and they’re practically responsible for it and they’ll bring many more reviews like this one either with me or alone so just have a look at their channel you can already find multiple reviews of other guns there A link to them is in the description and here on the video of course there is also a link to the firehawk as well as everything else we mentioned in the video as extra gear so maybe just have a look at the video description And now I’m out of here –Subtitles by musikchanger–
